On Thursday, we read our "7 and 8 year olds' can cook" persuasions to Miss Hough. They must have been very good because she agreed to let us loose in the kitchen! She bought the ingredients for Marshmallow Crunch on Thursday night and we made it this morning.
First we got all the ingredients and the equipment ready. We melted the marshmallows and butter in a pot on the stove. We measured the crunchy rice bubbles into a mixing bowl. When the marshmallows were melted the mixture they looked like stick, pink gloop! Then we poured the fluffy marshmallow into the rice bubbles. It was tricky to mix together because the marshmallow wanted to stick to the bowl and spoon. Next, we tipped the mixture into a tray lined with baking paper. It was very, very hard to smooth out! It reminded us of spiderwebs. Finally, we sprinkled Hundreds-and-Thousands on top.
The tray was put into Miss Hough's cupboard to set. After morning tea, Sylvie cut-up the slice and we gobbled it up! YUM, YUM, YUM! It was sweet, chewy, crunchy, sticky, gooey, and delicious! Our pieces were very BIG and some of us felt a bit sick.
What can we persuade Miss Hough to let us do next... ?!

THE AWESOME DISCO
THE AWESOME DISCO. Room 1, Room 2, Room 3 and Room 4 went to the Junior Disco. It was dark at the disco there were a lot of people wearing black and white clothing. We wore lots of cool clothing. We all got a 50c mixture and a drink. Our favourite dance was the chicken dance. After an hour we went home and had dinner. We can't wait for the next one.
7 and 8 year olds can cook!
Hi, it's Kelsey and Brooke! Do you think 7 and 8 year old kids can cook? Well we think that we can! Miss Hough said that we can bake something yummy on Friday the 5 of May if our persuasions convince her that it's true.

Maps
Hi, It's us, Tia and Latai! We will tell you about Maps today. Maps can help you when you are lost. Global maps can help you find places in other countries. GPS can be used in cars and in buses for navigation. We have been learning about compass points, legends and keys, symbols, scales, and landmarks. This is a picture of our school from Google Earth. We labeled all the landmarks. Click on the map to make it bigger.
The book fair
On Friday 16 May 2009 the whole school dressed up as our favourite book characters. It was fun. There were lots of funny and scary characters. People brought some spare parts to there costumes. After lunch, it was buddy time and we had a competition to see who was the most creative. Mr Chalmers dressed up as Barney the purple dinosaur, Mrs Egarr dressed up as Rupert Bear, Mrs Stephens dressed up as Captain Underpants and Miss Hough dressed up as nothing because she woke up at 8:00am! She only had time for a shower and then she had to go to school.

Mad Hair Day
I am going to talk to you about our school's Mad Hair Day. It was lots of fun and everyone was extremely creative.
My hair had three Mohawk's, one in the middle and one on each side of my head. My hair had a green stripe through the middle. I also had three hair ties tied to my fringe.
My favourite mad hair designs were on George and Daniel. George's hair looked like a porcupine with all his hair spiked up.He had green an purple glitter in his hair. Daniel had a big Mohawk. One side of his Mohawk was red, the other side was gold.
Our teacher, Miss Hough, took a photo of the whole class. The she took photos of everyone, three people at a time. I said "MONKEYS" in front of the camera. Then Daniel and Max said it too.
After lunch, we went into our house groups and the winners were announced. I didn't win but I was happy for the people who did. "Well, better luck next year", I though as I ran back to the classroom. George and Daniel had won! My two favourites! I knew they would win.

Dancing Machines
We have been learning about dance this term. Today in Room 1 we made movement machines. The boys had to create a machine that drills for candy flavoured lava from the centre of the earth and squeezes it into jelly beans for children to enjoy! The girls' machine plucked clouds from the sky, spun them into yarn, and made fluffy coats.
We had to think about...
Levels - high, medium, low
Body parts and machine-like movements
Team Work
We had five minutes to plan and practise our movements, then we presented them to the class. We hope you like our ideas...

GO GREEN DAY!

GO GREEN!

On Go Green Day we dressed up in green clothes. We had a parade and we decorated the classroom in green. We displayed our fantastic bird houses and made natural crafts. We made Easter Eggs out of real hen's eggs that we dipped in dye. We also had a healthy, rubbish-free "green" lunch.

The Middle Syndicate BBQ

I am going to tell you about the Middle Syndicate BBQ. It was lots of fun because Room 1 & 6 got together with their families and played games. We went for a long swim and had a BBQ dinner. For dinner we had sausages. After that we played seaweed. We all saw Catrin on her stilts. Catrin's Dad brought along two delicious cakes to share. One had a photo of children and one had a photo of Miss Hough! Finally, we were all tired out so we all went home.

Quinney's Bush
Last term we went to Quinney's Bush. We traveled to Quinney's in cars. When we got there it was cloudy, but there was no rain. We were all very excited and I counldn't wait to get started.
First we had morning tea. My group's first activity was the water-slide. It was awesome. Mr Quinney stood at the top of the tower and helped us with mats. We could feel the wind rushing past as we slipped down the slide.
Our second activity was the flying-fox. It was scary because it felt like you were going to hit the pole. I went down backwards!
The third activity was the confidence course. The first round was a wee bit easy but the second round was much harder because we were blindfolded! I had to trust my partner was telling me the right way to go.
Next my group went to the river. First I went down the slide into the river and then I tried the rope swing. It was really cool.
Activity five was the BMX track. We had all brought our bikes with us to Quinney's. I did a really high jump!
After the long day we went home! It was such a fun day and I will never forget it.

Our Haiku Poems
We are learning about different poetry forms this term.
Today we learned about Haiku poems. We know that a haiku only has three lines. The first and last lines have five syllables, the second line has seven. A haiku is usually about nature. We wrote our own, in small groups of three, about our school. We had to clap out the syllables in our lines to check we had the right amount.
Here are our haiku poems about our school. We think they are wonderful!
